Industry Awards Corner

We are happy to share good news: Two recent team projects have won major industry awards – the  Nike/Momentum Worldwide corporate event environment and the Minnesota Vikings Entertainment Network Studio with Provost Studio.

No false modesty here: It’s great to be recognized for hard work.

Here are the details.

Nike/Momentum Worldwide’s “Just Do It HQ at the Church” Wins 2019 Cannes Industry Craft Lions Award

Here’s how this team project is described by bizcommunity.com, “the Industry Craft Lions awards celebrate creative artistry, talent and the skill required to deliver a beautifully executed solution and bring a creative idea to life”.

Momentum’s vision was to transform a church on Chicago’s West Side into a Nike summer basketball training program for Chicago’s inner-city youth. The challenge: Design and construct the environment in a few short weeks in order to host nearly 2,000 students over four weeks of active programming that included daily training, skill and drill development, and off court education.

Transforming a 120-year-old church into a basketball arena required careful consideration at two levels: implementing Momentum’s ambitious design and protecting the historical integrity of the church’s special interior.

Every piece was beautifully designed and served a functional purpose – from fake walls to intricate basketball-themed metalwork designed to protect stained glass, to special raised athletic flooring. The result was a visually captivating space for the four-week basketball challenge that would also easily convert the church interior back to its original state.

Here’s an important bottom line: The right team can make even the most complex events look easy and a partner with broad experience is almost always the best bet. While Momentum had initially approached Chicago Scenic to help only with scenic design and technical drafting, as the ambitious project took shape, Momentum’s team realized that Chicago Scenic was also the right partner to fabricate and install the event design.

Vikings Entertainment Network Studio/Provost Studio Wins Telly Silver Award, Craft Television Category

The Telly Awards showcase the best work created within television. More than 12,000 entries from 50 states and five continents were reviewed this year and winners represent advertising agencies, television stations, production companies and publishers from around the world.

In this successful team collaboration, Chicago Scenic, under the scenic direction of design firm Provost Studio, fabricated and installed the new 1,750 sq. ft. TCO Studios broadcast set for the NFL Minnesota Vikings. Other team members included Lighting Design Group, who provided lighting design and infrastructure, and Primeview Inc., who provided on-set AV technology.

For maximum camera angles and set flexibility, the studio is divided into four sections: the main anchor desk for traditional broadcasts, an informal area for relaxed content, the social/ interactive area featuring an 86-inch touchscreen, and the stand-up area equipped with three vertical screens.

The goal of the broadcast set design was to feature cutting-edge technology that could showcase the team’s vast video content. Incorporating technology in the space provides touchscreen monitors that act as a focal point and also enable hosts to visually break down plays, highlight key game moments, and interact with game images.

One of the keys to this project’s success – and with all successful team projects – was to ask lots and lots of questions. And then listen. Asking questions at the start of this project provided the client the opportunity to tell us who they are and what they wanted from this broadcast environment. Really listening to the client provided the insight that helped drive the award-winning design.
