Apollo 18 Escape Room Adventure

Chicago Scenic collaborated with various partners on the fabrication and installation of the first highly engaging and unique Escape Room for Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis of the Seas cruise ship. This fully immersive escape room is part of the recent renovations designed to enhance the cruise experience for several different Royal Caribbean ships.

The newest Escape Room Adventure is a replica of the Apollo 18 Mission Control Room, and the design is truly a full interactive escape room experience. The concept for the Escape Room Adventure was presented by SVP, Entertainment Nick Weir, in collaboration with Puzzle Break, Designduo, Chicago Scenic Studios, and Creative Technology.

Guests aboard the Royal Caribbean Oasis ship will find the same Mission Control Room that was in the Johnson Space Center’s Apollo Mission Control Center in Houston in the 60’s and 70’s. One of the original flight directors of all the Apollo missions, Gerry Griffin was invited aboard the ship for the ribbon cutting celebration. “You can tell by the detail, all that’s been done in here the designers knew what they were doing, and they did not cut it short”, said Griffin. He was impressed with the level of detail and expressed that the colors were exactly the same.

The room resemblance is exceptional and once guests are inside the Apollo 18 Mission Control Room, 12 guests are given the mission to launch the rocket to the moon. The team of 12 guests collaborate to find clues, solve puzzles, turn on the councils and launch Apollo 18 to the moon within 50 minutes. The game is unique and different from the escape rooms already installed on the other ships. The whole object of the game is to launch the rocket to the moon, only if the team wins but if they lose the rocket is directed to a parking orbit in space.

Puzzle Break, the creator of the first escape games, designed the puzzles of the game and included clues that are part of the go or no go launch. The Designduo team, crafted the specific elements of the game and coordinated with Chicago Scenic on different materials and concepts to bring the design to life. Chicago Scenic Studios fabricated and installed the finished product, while Creative Technology integrated the digital components.
