Overture Center

Chicago Scenic created a custom built riser system for the Overture Center – based on the same design of the riser system in Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Symphony Hall –to elevate orchestra members for a clear view of the conductor while creating a surface similar to a solid floor, allowing for superior sound resonance.

Teams worked to bookmatch (the art of matching two pieces of wood so that adjoining surfaces mirror each other) several pieces of maple, then glued them together into sections and backed them with a muslin material.  This helped to create a ‘floating’ floor that produced excellent acoustical conditions, but that could be rolled away and stored with minimal effort.
