Carpenter

Chicago Scenic seeks experienced carpenters to join our talented fabrication team.

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all safety warnings and guidelines and maintain a safe working environment
  • Operate tools, machines, and equipment safely
  • Maintain a clean and tidy workspace
  • Fabricate various items to meet project and company needs
  • Select and evaluate materials for potential defects
  • Read and interpret project specific drawings
  • Checking finished work to make sure that it falls within the tolerances marked on the blueprints or specified by the Department Head
  • Assist Job Leads with the fabrication, pack, installation, and facilitation as needed for projects
  • Complete shop specific fabrication tasks such as but not limited to building shop carts, table management, and inventory upkeep
  • Attend onsite work calls and installation calls in order to maintain or repair scenery as needed
  • Any additional tasks as requested by the Carpentry Department Head

Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of English
  • Ability to operate saws, hand tools, and other carpentry tools and machines
  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and sketches to fully grasp build requirements
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor
  • Knowledge of mathematics
  • Knowledge of Layout both small (stair risers) and large (ground plans) a plus
  • Tool maintenance a plus
  • Basic hand tools required

Education/Experience:

  • Two-plus years of professional experience in a regional theatre, commercial scene shop, or similar environment preferred
  • Experience operating a CNC machine a plus

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform and pass a fit test for a respirator
  • Standing for prolonged periods, climbing, pulling, and lifting objects weighing fifty pounds or less
  • Sporadic overtime and travel for job related installs, strikes, or necessary tasks
