DuPage Children’s Museum

Working closely with clients in need is one way to make lemonade out of lemons.

On a Sunday in early January 2015 when the Naperville, IL DuPage Children’s Museum was closed and the weather was frigid, a pipe on the third floor burst, sending thousands of gallons of water cascading onto the two floors below, ruining a majority of the existing exhibits.

The result - the museum opened better than ever eight months later to delight the Museum’s core audience, kids and their families. This was an effort made possible with the help of many different Chicago Scenic teams and client partnerships.

With 7,000 sq. ft. of redesigned, refurbished and re-imagined exhibits and interactives, new features adorned the “Make it Move” exhibit. Two new  spaces, the “Creativity Connections” and “Big Lawn” complete with rolling ‘hills’ that children can slide down, made the exhibits as engaging as ever.

The icing on the cake was the custom built Pyramid Puzzle, a multi-functional child's game, which won the 2016 AIA Small Project award - Chicago Chapter.  Chicago Scenic fabricated the element using Baltic Birch and Corian in geometric shapes, producing an interactive work of art. (AIA Award Info)
