Shop Foreman (Carpentry Department Head)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Select tools, materials, and equipment and track inventory
  • Analyze, manage, and mitigate risks
  • Ensure quality, consistent, construction standards and use of proper construction techniques
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Ensure a timely flow of projects
  • Communicate with Job Leads, Project Managers, and Director of Shop Operations to assist in filling labor requests
  • Effectively Communicate with other department heads to assist with prioritizing the flow between departments and other various needs
  • Ensure work commences at the established shift time
  • Request/inform Director of Shop Operations and other necessary personnel of labor needs that will exceed the regular working hours at CSSI
  • Attend and provide thoughtful feedback during Scheduling Stand-Up meeting and other meetings as necessary. 
  • Ensure that all equipment and machinery are properly operated and maintained in a timely manner
  • Track equipment and tools while monitoring and replenishing as needed
  • Monitoring inventory levels and replenishing supplies as needed
  • Help to oversee training and development of shop employees
  • Assist in bidding as needed or directed by the Director of Shop Operations
  • Develop and implement new procedures, methods, equipment, and systems
  • Research and understand new materials and processes
  • Identify process bottlenecks and offer timely solutions
  • Offer mentorship and expertise to inexperienced craftspeople to ensure organizational growth and quality.
  • Any additional tasks as requested by the Director of Operations

  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities
  • Awareness of industry methodologies, materials, and equipment
  • Ability to travel occasionally for job specific tasks


  • At least five years of experience as a shop foreman or similar
  • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or occupational training preferred 

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Extended periods of walking, standing, and lifting
  • Moderate periods of prolonged sitting, bending, kneeling, and reaching
  • Ability to lift up to 50Lbs
