Head Painter / Sculptor

Overview: CSSI is seeking an experienced and skilled Head Painter / Sculptor to lead the department, oversee staff, and ensure high-quality fabrication and finish standards. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, technical expertise in painting and sculpting, and the ability to collaborate effectively with other departments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage department staff, including recruitment, training and performance evaluations
2. Collaborate to develop and maintain project schedules and efficient workflow
3. Assign work for all projects
4. Oversee quality control and maintain fabrication standards
5. Coordinate with other departments and project managers
6. Manage inventory, equipment, and material sourcing
7. Develop and implement new procedures and techniques
8. Aid in project bidding and labor allocation
9. Mentor and train staff to foster organizational growth
10. Ensure adherence to safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment
Qualifications:
1. Proven experience leading a team in a similar role
2. Expert knowledge of painting techniques, including color mixing and matching, spray automotive finishing, faux finishing, and surface preparation
3. Proficiency in sculpting and scenic fabrication
4. Excellent communication and delegation skills
5. Familiarity with custom and unique fabrication and finish methods
6. Ability to work overtime and travel as needed
7. Physical capability to lift 50 pounds and stand for prolonged periods
8. Minimum of 5 years professional experience in theater, commercial scene shop, or similar environment
Additional Skills:
• Problem-solving and process improvement abilities
• Knowledge of safety regulations and ability to pass respirator fit test
• Adaptability to new materials and processes
• Computer Proficiency: Microsoft Office 365, Project Management Software, Graphics Software
