Oprah Winfrey Show

Oprah’s current set, designed by Anton Goss, is a dramatic environment and its distinctive look and requirements challenged Chicago Scenic in many ways.

Innovative automation drives the set’s dramatic flexibility.

This all-new, highly innovative and unprecedented set allows for great flexibility, multiple ways to reveal guests, bands or special sets, and a striking appearance while keeping Oprah close to her audience. A series of mechanized devices allow for numerous stage configurations. In all, the set contains nearly 50 points of motion.

The set features a movable LED wall and double-sided light boxes that swivel.

The show’s latest set contains center close-downs of double-sided light boxes which open like clamshells to reveal the 30 ft. diameter center stage turntable with eight hydraulic lift stage sections, or rise into themselves and disappear into the ceiling. Other key features include three double-sided light boxes that swivel 90° and host 42” plasma monitors to provide a creative reveal option. The set also includes a 16 ft. by 30 ft. LED wall designed in four separate pieces, all of which can be moved side to side and up and down stage. All of this surrounds Oprah’s home base which is designed to allow three positions of differing proximity to the audience.

Beyond the base contract, Chicago Scenic Studios and Project Manager Gary Heitz provided project management for the complete renovation of the studio, including lighting, sound, projection, general construction and facility configuration.
