Chicago Scenic managed installations of the globes across the city
CSSI fabricated the globe interior, poured the concrete bases and added a UV-protective clear coat to the globes once the artists’ designs were complete. Chicago Scenic also coordinated the logistics and physical installation of the globes throughout the city, installed the identifying plaques for each globe and served as the emergency response team for any problems.
The globes were placed primarily near Chicago’s Field Museum and on Navy Pier; other locations included the Sears Tower, Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago, Whole Foods and Exelon Plaza. They provided entertaining browsing for observers during Chicago’s sunny summer days.
Even Chicago Scenic designed and sponsored a globe for this project!
Chicago Scenic was so inspired by the project that they sponsored a globe on behalf of PlayPumps International, a non-profit collaborative that enables individuals, governments, foundations, and companies to donate PlayPump™ water systems to rural African communities and schools.
When the Cool Globes exhibit was dismantled after Labor Day 2007, the globes were auctioned off and the proceeds used to support future environmental education initiatives.
