Chicago
Scenic engineered and built the core activities for General
Mills' Cereal Adventure, a family entertainment center located
in the Mall of America.
The primary activity, "Farm to Factory," is an interactive
experience in which guests are part of the manufacturing process
of cereal.
It
begins at "Farm and Mill" where cereal starts as
grains grown on a farm. From there, kids go into the Control
Room with interactive control panels and monitors. Then it's
on to the Cooking Room where guests can spin wheels, ride
bikes, and pull levers to mix the grain with water, and fire
up a huge walk-through oven. Next is the Dough Extruder, where
an oversized boxing glove punches the dough into Cheerios.
Then on to the Puffing Area where pumping the Cheerio Volcano
makes it erupt giant Cheerios. In the Toasting Room guests
blast the cereal with hot air to move it along to the Finishing
Area where the cereal is packaged, given a brand identity,
and is literally launched into the store.
The
other key activity produced by Chicago Scenic is "You
Rule," where kids create a personalized cereal to take
home. They pick their own cereal mix, name it, and decorate
the box, which they place on a conveyer belt that takes it
to giant silos that appear to fill it with the selected cereal
combination. The boxes are later purchased by their creators
in the attraction's retail area.
The
planning and execution of the work took almost a full year.
Working closely with the attraction's designer, Shea Architects,
each element was further developed and engineered by Chicago
Scenic's design department and then carefully constructed
and shipped to the Mall of America, where Chicago Scenic's
crews worked for over two months installing the attraction.
