Chicago
Scenic provided full turnkey services for the official 25th
anniversary production of the original Broadway production
of Hair. This included providing everything from concept design
development, production management, fabrication, and rigging,
to the final installation and operation of the show.
Chicago
Scenic provided not only the scenic design, but the lighting
design as well which allowed for a fully integrated production
design package. Some of the elements of the show included
a permanently installed 20-foot-diameter hydraulic-lift deck,
and a matching overhead lighting truss that could pivot and
turn to allow the cast to stand and hang on it while it swung
out over the audience.
One of
the project's biggest challenges was that after each performance
the stage and theater had to be converted back to a dance
club for the rest of the evening.
Chicago
Scenic's involvement began early on, working with the show's
producers and director to develop designs for the show that
gave it a more contemporary look through the use of video
walls and moving lights without losing the feel of the 1960s.
It was these designs that were ultimately used to recruit
financial backers for the project.
