 Based
on a long-standing relationship with ABC Network News, Chicago
Scenic was contracted to build much of the new scenery for
Good Morning America at its new studio on Times Square. A
reputation for high quality, good value, and on-time delivery
prompted ABC to hire Chicago Scenic for this fast-track project.
The set had to be fitted into a yet-to-be-completed studio
for daily use, plus it had to be completely removable when
the studio was required for other purposes.
The first floor studio is in the style of a New York subway
station, complete with tiled walls, hand-painted fiberglass
"terracotta" moldings and ornamental ironwork complete
with "iron" rivets.
Incorporated
into the set are three-dimensional internally illuminated
signage panels that Chicago Scenic produced using its three-dimensional
CNC router software, allowing them to be created in one-third
the time normally required.
The
second-floor sets, designed to look like a home's library,
kitchen, and den, were finished in maple veneer and trim,
continuing the warm homey look dictated by the show's format
and style.
Once the
sets were fully constructed in Chicago, they were shipped
to New York, where Chicago Scenic supervised their installation
in the new studio.
