In
1996 the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) retained
Chicago Scenic as its general contractor for production construction
for the convention in Chicago, and, after successfully bringing
in the 1996 convention ahead of schedule and under budget,
retained Chicago Scenic for the 2000 convention in Los Angeles.
In
1996 Chicago Scenic was charged with engineering and building
the massive dais and lectern with security and height control,
the three-story podium, and the huge projection screens surrounding
them. This giant structure not only held two elevators and
a sprinkler system, but a 56-monitor video wall and a 30-piece
orchestra as well. In addition, Chicago Scenic built out the
DNCC media center and press platforms, and provided event
signage and decorations, both inside and outside of the United
Center.
Chicago
Scenic managed the many subcontractors, providing over 500
union workers for the event's construction and operation,
ranging from the electrical and HVAC services to all production
and decorating crews.
In 2000
Chicago Scenic provided construction management for the scenic
elements in the Los Angeles Staples Center. Chicago Scenic
upgraded the podium and lectern from the 1996 convention and
shipped it to Los Angeles, where its project manager and crews
remained onsite through the convention to ensure that all
elements came together smoothly, and to manage the local subcontractors
that were retained for the project.
