Scenic created an interactive environment for the Kohl Children's
Museum where kids could become fully immersed in the time
of King Solomon. The exhibit also served a secondary purpose
as an extension of an adult education program in Jewish studies.
The
children were able to role play using custom-designed interactive
environments that included a Phoenecian trading ship so realistic
that the kids could go below to store cargo in the ship's
hold, paddle the oars, and raise the sails. They could rule
the kingdom from King Solomon's throne room complete with
a bejeweled throne with light-up steps and waving ostrich
fans, all guarded by statues of animal sentries with light-up
eyes. The children were able to interact with each other by
assuming the roles of members of the king's court when stepping
behind costumed mannequins and putting on wigs and jewelry
to further
immerse themselves in the ancient time of King Solomon. In
addition, the kids were able to explore King Solomon's mine
with soft sculptural walls and floor with hidden treasures
of sparkling gems and artifacts. There were also several stalls
in the old Jerusalem market area where kids could role play
as bakers, craftsmen, and merchants trading their wares and
services, and they could color a giant mural depicting old
Jerusalem on an acrylic wall that could be washed for reuse
each day.
