Adler Planetarium Exhibit Shoots for the Moon
Chicago Scenic reached for the stars with its contribution to Chicago's Adler Planetarium exhibit, Shoot for the Moon: A Journey with NASA Astronaut Jim Lovell. Working for exhibit designer BRC Imagination Arts, Chicago Scenic gave the hometown touch to this exhibit about a Chicago-born hero who went to the moon four times.

In the first gallery, A Journey with Jim Lovell, visitors relive America's original race to space through the poignant stories of Lovell's life and early career, with his own treasures telling the story of how he went from a child dreaming of traveling into space to a man who reached his lofty goal. To achieve this Chicago Scenic constructed an area designed to resemble Lovell's boyhood bedroom to house science fiction books that inspired him as a child along with personal photos and diaries. We also provided several wall murals that illustrate Lovell's accomplishments.

In the second gallery, visitors learn about the challenges of returning to the moon. A highlight of this gallery is the Lunar Danger Theater that houses a pepper's ghost special effects presentation that puts a humorous spin on the hazards of space travel.
The exhibit's grand opening was November 11, 2006, the 40th anniversary of the Gemini 12 mission.
