Makes Way for Radio City's Christmas Across America
After
a five-year collaboration between Radio City Productions and Chicago
Scenic, Chicagoans had one final chance to join the millions that
have seen the dancing teddy bears, wooden soldiers, Santa, and the
high-kicking Rockettes at the Rosemont Theatre, before the nation’s
number one holiday show hits the road as Radio City’s new
national touring show, Christmas Across America.
Over the last five years CSSI built much of the scenery and painted
backdrops for Radio City’s standing shows in Chicago, Detroit,
Branson, and Los Angeles, as well as the two touring productions
designed by Patrick Fahey that have visited Minneapolis, Indianapolis,
Phoenix, Dallas, and Cleveland. Destination cities for Radio City’s
upcoming Christmas Across America tour have not yet been decided.
Project Manger Ken Zommer worked with long-time Radio City Production
Designers John Shaffner and Joe Stewart to provide the original
scenery and ongoing maintenance for those productions. The giant
illuminated Christmas trees for the famous Christmas in New York
scenes were among the scenic elements created in CSSI’s 140,000-sq.-ft.
shop, loaded onto trucks, and delivered to the theater. CSSI Job
Lead Tim Steimle worked closely with Technical Director Larry Morley
during the construction of the new tours.
