Last Night
of Ballyhoo at Mercury Theatre
CSSI
continues its roots of building traditional theatre sets when it
did the scenic construction for The Last Night of Ballyhoo, now
playing at the Mercury Theatre. Also harkening back to the company's
early days is the Mercury's owner, Michael Cullen, who was one of
CSSI's original clients when he was with the Travel Light Theatre.
The set, designed by Rob Odorisio, was based on the original designs
of John Lee Beatty and had a Spanish deco look and a stucco finish.
The highly detailed set also included detailed moldings, custom
columns and a rolling train car. Chicago Scenic's CNC router was
put to work cutting out the set's floor tiles.
Project Manager Garrett Todd worked with Karen Leahy, the business
manager, and Mark Goeke led the job in the shop.
