U.S. Air Force set refurbed for new holiday show
CSSI recently refurbished and redecorated the set that it
had originally built in 2003 for the U.S. Air Force show
about the Wright Brothers, “Born of a Dream”.
The
entire set, a series of store facades originally designed
by J. Branson, were returned to CSSI’s shops to be
modified and repainted. They were updated and restyled
by Tom Ryan to resemble a Currier & Ives-style town
square for a new holiday show featuring the Air Force Brass
Band and choir, and performed at the Daughters of the American
Revolution Constitution Hall.
Drury Lane Oak Brook spins the tale of “Goodbye Girl”
“Goodbye Girl” has
so many scene changes (up to six locales in ten minutes) that Drury Lane Oak
Brook needed an easy way to make the changes appear seamless. They looked no
further than Chicago Scenic’s mechanical expertise to
build the systems and automate them for quick scene changes.
CSSI provided
the mechanical expertise to spin two circles around a 20-foot-diameter
turntable. The outermost circle was a 30-foot donut shape
that used a friction drive system to spin around the inner
circle, a one-foot-wide track with a 20-foot diameter that
utilized a cable device to turn walls and scenery around
the center turntable.
CSSI also
built the entire modular raised show deck to conceal the
spinning circles and their mechanical components.
