Ho Chi
Min Bas Relief Created for Miss Saigon
CSSI
built a 17-foot-tall, six-inch-thick bas-relief sculpture of Ho
Chi Min for Big League Theatricals’ touring production of
Miss Saigon. Project Manager Ross Hamilton worked with Designer
J. Branson and Rick Reiser of Big League on the project.
To create the sculpture, CSSI’s Andy Lemerand built an aluminum
sup- port frame and applied plywood and blocks of foam to the surface.
Job Lead Mike Zaremba then worked for several days to carefully
carve the likeness of Ho Chi Min into the foam. Once carved, it
was covered with clear epoxy resin and rendered in gold bronzing
powder paints to give an illusion of a stylized buddha by Paint
Department Head Kevin Taylor. A red banner with a gold star, sickle,
and crescent backed the sculpture for the final touch.
The finished sculpture was crated and shipped to Reno, Nevada, to
join the show on the road.
