Amazing Chicago Opens at Navy Pier
Amazing Chicago, Navy Pier’s newest new family entertainment center, opened on Memorial Day this year. The attraction features three main sections: a walk-through mirror maze of Chicago’s underground, large-scale replicas of Chicago’s most famous landmarks, and an observation deck that offers visitors a spectacular view high above the city.

As visitors walk through, they are immersed visually, and with interesting audio facts about Chicago’s landmarks, history, and infrastructure. The multisensory experience is complete with dripping water in the underground section, and the feel of actual heat that visitors sense at the recreation of the Great Chicago Fire.

The experience begins as all guests climb into a “construction elevator” that is headed to an observation deck on Chicago’s newest and highest skyscraper. But the elevator then fails and sends everyone crashing into a mirror maze of the tunnels deep beneath the city. After finding their way out of the first maze, visitors find themselves in another labyrinth consisting of replicas of Chicago’s famous landmarks. And in true Chicago style, the experience ends with a grand fireworks display.

CSSI Project Manager Mark Ewing worked with Premier Yachts for over a year, managing the detailing, construction, and completion of the project. Senior Project Manager Ken Zommer, construction manager for the project, coordinated the various designers and contractors for the project. CSSI Carpenter Tim Steimle was the Job Lead on the project and Metals Department Head Dan Yuen handled the metal work and the mechanical systems. They worked with the attraction’s designers, Jack Rouse Associates, and Adrian Fisher, designer of the maze, to finish the project in time for its holiday weekend opening.
