mall in Atlanta
Working with 3D Group, CSSI built architectural facades for the
new upscale Mall of Georgia outside Atlanta. CSSI built large portals
out of tubular steel for three sections of the mall, finishing them
in the Piedmont, Plains and Mountain styles of architecture.
The mountain
style was defined by faux wood beams with butterfly connectors and
a cedar shake roof. Piedmont had a large circular rose window under
a semi-circular cowl roof. Plains style was more linear, with carved
pilasters and a gable roof.
All units had
internal and external lighting fixtures. The portals involved so
many custom carved medallions and panels that CSSI's Kevin Taylor
made casts from his carved originals to make their reproduction
easier.
Project Manager Gary Heitz worked with David Grain-ger and David
Chapman of 3D Group, while Dan Yuen, Ken Glucksberg and Eric Branson
led the job through the shop. Dan Yuen spent about a month onsite
installing the job.
