Minnesota gives RNC delegates a preview
of the White House
Chicago Scenic’s scenic artists spent several weeks hand-painting a huge 25-ft. high by 64-ft. wide backdrop depicting the White House for “Civic Fest—A Very Minnesota Celebration,” a Republican National Convention-related event.
While the backdrop could have been produced digitally, it would have lost the depth and detail that only skilled scenic artists can provide. CSSI was hired by BaAM Production Services to create the backdrop that included real doors so visitors could actually walk through the White House entrance.
Com Ed shows it’s easy being green
“Going green” is on the lips of everyone lately, but Chicago’s ComEd is taking it literally. The energy company teamed up with ad agency Leo Burnett to create 24 three-foot-tall topiaries in the spiral shape of energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs that were on display along Chicago’s Michigan Avenue this summer. Eight-foot topiaries were placed in Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo and in a Rockford, Ill. park as well.
Chicago Scenic engineered and sculpted the bulbs’ “metal” bases. CSSI also installed and maintained the energy-efficient rope lighting for nighttime viewing.
Sears Tower celebrates Chicago’s Olympic spirit
The Olympic spirit carried all the way to the Sears Tower’s lobby this summer during the Beijing Games. Overnight, CSSI installed the huge display of national flags from each country participating in the Olympics, along with a banner touting Chicago’s hopes for hosting the 2016 games.
