CBS 2 Unveils New Logo
With the help of CSSI, WBBM-TV CBS 2 was able to present their new logo to the public in grand fashion. A graphic design team led by Joan Bowman at CBS designed the new logo that was highlighted in several commercials that aired over the Labor Day weekend. CSSI Project Manager, John Beckman, supervised the fabrication and installation of the project.

The logo, an updated version of the classic CBS 2 logo, was a dimensional oval shape that incorporated two layers of color. The first layer was deep blue and the second was a metal laminate, chosen to emphasize the new shape. Lighting Director Peggy Friedrich added a built-in blue neon giving it a halo effect, ensuring the logo would stand out.

The six-feet-wide by four-feet-tall logo was built large enough so a whole news crew could stand around it while they shot tag lines and commercials. CSSI Carpenters Joy Holden and Dave Duwell led the installation at the Chicago Film and Tape Works, where the taping took place.

Other scenic elements included five white spandex columns that were placed in the corners of the set. They added height and an element of sculptural style to the space while catching additional light and creating shadow play on the logo and news crew.
