Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire Experiences Record Sales for Miss Saigon
Thanks to the help of Chicago Scenic, Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire experienced record-breaking box office sales for their recent show, Miss Saigon, only the second revival of the musical since the famous national tour. Marriott Designer Tom Ryan gained critical acclaim for his design of the show.

Tom worked with CSSI Senior Project Manager Ross Hamilton to create a series of lifts, rolling blinds, and various fly pieces for the mysterious and enchanting Miss Saigon, which was staged in the round. Russell Pharr was the job lead on the project and worked closely with Marriott Technical Director Charlie Burns during the installation process. As part of the job management aspect, CSSI also created the lift programming for the platforms and blinds that were used during the show.

Paige Barnes (featured in Spotlight on Staff on page six) and Amy Holsman of the CSSI paint department painted the motorized rolling blinds, a major component of the set. They were used to create headers and had partially opened slats which created dramatic lighting effects and allowed the audience to catch a glimpse of the action on stage before it was fully revealed. The blinds were carefully chosen and had to be sturdy enough to survive the hundreds of times they would be raised and lowered throughout the run of the show.

CSSI also built fly pieces that were particularly effective for the scenes that took place in the Streets of Bangkok Club. Actors used fly pieces such as a bar unit with poles as areas to dance and sing while several brightly lit and multi-circuited signs with moving parts enticed patrons into the club.
