CSSI Creates Theater Magic
With the help of Chicago Scenic Studios, Stilletto Productions in conjunction with Barry Manilow, was able to mount the musical revue Could It Be Magic at the Mercury Theatre in Chicago. Subtitled The Barry Manilow Songbook, the show contains over 30 songs associated with Barry Manilow.

The ensemble of three women, two men, and a six-piece band sing, dance, and play on the set built by Chicago Scenic. The set includes a multi-level stage, a scrim roll-drop, and a spectacular proscenium arch decorated with illuminated names.

The internally illuminated arch, painted by CSSI's Paige Barnes, spelled out over 30 names of associated hit songwriters and lyricists. Throughout the show the names lit up when the songs that they were associated with were being performed. The individually lit names were made of Plexiglas with pierce cut laminate faces. CSSI Carpenter Dave Duwell supervised each name as it was sent to the CNC router to be cut for proper alignment and framing.

CSSI also built several props for the show, including a roll-out bed that was stored under the multi-level stage, a bar unit, a window box seat, and a stained glass window effect that flew behind the set. Lighting and Set Designer Seth Jackson also utilized rented drapery and other platforms from Chicago Scenic.

Randy Bishop and Dave Duwell were always flexible while working with the production crew and, with only a few days to load in the show, were able to make the opening as planned.
