Set Plays a Big Role at COT
Chicago Scenic played a crucial role in bringing world-renowned architect Rafael Viñoly’s vision to the stage of the Chicago Opera Theater this spring. It was a true honor to work with Viñoly, who brings with him an impressive resume, including the Chicago University Graduate School of Business and the new home for Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.
Working in close collaboration with both Viñoly and the COT, Chicago Scenic built the unique, yet spartan set for the production of Monteverdi’s “The Return of Ulysses.” The set was a series of glossy white multi-tiered platforms and risers, soaring up to 18½ feet off the ground. The two highest levels were an engineering feat in themselves with automated bifold doors that were 16-feet tall and four-feet wide, while the deck slid open to reveal a bathtub below.
