Cool Globes Make Waves on Chicago’s Lakefront
Chicago Scenic is proud to have worked on and installed all 124 globes for the public art project “Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet,” taking place this summer in Chicago.

Intended to increase public awareness of global warming and to encourage new and innovative solutions to the problem, the five-foot-diameter, fiberglass globes will be placed near Chicago’s Field Museum and Navy Pier beginning in early June. Some of the globes will also be scattered to other locations, including the Sears Tower, Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago, Whole Foods and Exelon Plaza.

Chicago Scenic worked closely with engineers Thorton Tomasetti LLC to engineer the globes’ interior structure and the concrete bases, and to minimize any safety and security issues that can accompany a public exhibit. We then fabricated the globes’ interiors, poured the concrete bases and added a UV-protective clear coat. Chicago Scenic also coordinated the logistics and physical installation of the globes, installed the identifying plaques for each globe and will serve as the emergency response team if any problems arise with the globes over the summer.

Chicago Scenic was so inspired by the project that we teamed up to sponsor a globe on behalf of PlayPumps International, a nonprofit collaborative that enables individuals, governments, foundations, and companies to donate PlayPump™ water systems to rural African communities and schools. A PlayPump™ system acts as a child’s merry-go-round while attached to a water pump that provides clean drinking water and public service messages to schools and communities in underserved areas of Africa.

Jeff Bartle, CSSI’s new creative director, coordinated its design to be an interactive experience where children can move a merry-go-round rail around the globe’s base which spins the entire globe. Atop the globe is simulated water that fans out as it is spun around. The PlayPumps™ logo is prominently displayed and the organization’s website, www. playpumps.org, is on the globe’s base so that visitors can learn more about it.

Leo Burnett’s Surprise Designed to Put Toy Retailer in Holiday Spirit
When Leo Burnett wanted to show a large toy retailer that they were serious about gaining their advertising business, they came to Chicago Scenic to help set the scene. Leo Burnett wanted to prove that even with the toy-buying season 10 months away, they could get into the holiday spirit quickly and they had just the way to show it.

When the toy executives arrived at Leo Burnett for their presentation they entered a conference room off the main lobby. As soon as the doors closed, Chicago Scenic set to work creating the Christmas scene. The project had to be completed as quietly as possible and in less than three hours.

When the meeting ended, the toy execs were greeted by a Christmas scene where the bare lobby had been just hours before.

Chicago Reveling in Possibility of Hosting 2016 Olympics
The City of Chicago is overflowing with pride at being chosen by the U.S. Olympic Committee to represent its efforts to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Mayor Daley hosted a grand celebration in Daley Plaza just days after the announcement and Chicago Scenic is proud to have pulled off these festivities. With balloons and a giant banner, Chicago Scenic made the event a reality with less than one day’s notice.
