Chicago Throws America’s First Urban Garden Party!
To help maximize the success of Chicago’s Garden in a City – America’s only urban garden and landscape show – Chicago Scenic provided comprehensive project management services, infrastructure coordination and numerous urban garden-inspired scenic elements.

From May 13-21, at Butler Field in Grant Park, Chicago Scenic and Ravenswood Event Services joined forces with the Chicago Park District to transform the large, open space into intimate Chicago “neighborhoods.” The landscapes included urban front and back yards, balcony and rooftop gardens, and container and vertical gardens. CSSI provided:

• 2 football fields worth of tent to deliver a dynamic event, rain or shine

• 50 scrims, up to 32’ tall, resembling traditional “Chicago bungalows”, two-flats & garages

• 650 linear feet of curb to help create the feel of realistic neighborhoods

• 170 cubic yards of topsoil and 70 cubic yards of sand to form the gardens

• 70’ x 20’ interactive kids’ play area with water sprays, light-up planters and a crawl maze

• faux walls to create the look and feel of rooftop gardens

• custom-fabricated “sky frames” for a stunning hanging garden at the visitor entrance

Numerous man-hours were devoted to ensuring a smooth-flowing event. CSSI provided site planning, logistics, installation labor and supervision, daily event operations staff, and extensive event management services before, during and after the educational week-long event.
