Museum of Science and Industry Opens Interactive Exhibit on Filmmaking
The Museum of Science and Industry has ventured into producing its own touring exhibit and Chicago Scenic helped make it a success. Entitled “Action! An Adventure in Moviemaking,” the exhibit is currently in Chicago through January 9, 2005. It is a comprehensive exhibit that gives the participant a behind-the-scenes look at the filmmaking industry.

Chicago Scenic Senior Project Manager Ken Zommer worked closely with MSI Manager of Temporary Exhibits John Beckman to ensure the project was delivered on time and on budget. Other CSSI employees who helped create the exhibit include job leads Mike Zaremba, who built many of the display cases, and Dave Duwell, who built most of the wall units and headed up the installation.

This unique exhibit has two distinct areas: the sound stage, which Paramount Studios provided, and the display area, completed by CSSI. Action! is a fun and fascinating experience because it mixes both traditional and interactive elements that give visitors the opportunity to learn about various filmmaking jobs and then actually make their own short movie.

The jobs of screenwriter, director, costume designer, stunt coordinator, and actor are showcased in the exhibit. The display cases fabricated by Chicago Scenic were made to look like road cases and contained a wide range of artifacts including costumes from Spiderman and Indiana Jones, most of which were provided by George Lucas’ Industrial Light and Magic.
