Acura Lights Up Reveal of New Model
Chicago Scenic Studios made John Sanish’s set design a reality for Acura’s reveal of the 2005 RL at their national dealer meeting.

Project Managers Rick Boultinghouse and Ross Hamilton worked with Producer Jim Rossi of Martin Brinkerhoff and Associates and Tom Mendenhall of Production Management to help create an exciting reveal for Acura’s National Dealer Meeting which was held at Chicago’s Arie Crown Theater in August 2004.

The reveal required CSSI to build a platform off stage that connected to a 70-foot-long ramp that dropped in elevation down to two feet, curving down to a 16-foot-diameter turntable, and then back off stage. The car was driven down the ramp and onto the turntable for a 360-degree view.

The set was adorned with three unique flying elements that resembled a sun, a ship, and three 100-foot-long waves. The sun, ship, and waves were made out of brushed aluminum with a grinder finish which created very shiny, light-reflective pieces. The waves also showcased LED lights on one-foot centers with the ability to change colors and chase. Extra care was taken to get the lights to sync up with each other and the light board.

Other scenic elements included a lectern, an upstage masking wall with a crinkled screen face, and elastic webbing that extended from the stage out to the theater house.
Dave Duwell led the job while Luis Salces was the second and was also in charge of rigging.
