GM Annual Meeting Held at Detroit's Motor City Casino & Hotel
When planning a recent GM Annual Meeting at Detroit's Motor City Casino & Hotel, producer Patrick Wall of the Patrick Wall Group knew he wanted to put a HD Silverado Dump truck - a 10,000 pound fleet vehicle - on stage and then rotate it on a turntable. To figure out how he was going to do that, Wall contacted Chicago Scenic.
"The challenge in this project is the vehicle weight," Jean Burch, CSSI project & rentals manager, said. "Ten thousand pounds is over the weight limit of most industry turntables but ours can manage that distributed load comfortably." To further complicate the design, the stage and turntable were to be as low as possible to the floor.
To meet these specifications, Chicago Scenic provided an 18-foot diameter, low profile turntable and decking, with a total height of nine inches. The turntable and accompanying decking were provided through Chicago Scenic's rental properties, contributing to the cost effectiveness of the completed project.
On stage, there were several additional elements – a large 10-foot x 40-foot front projection screen with a custom surround with built in doors, a custom built automated line set system that supported a black out curtain and scrim, and additional decking supporting a 10-foot by 32-foot XL Video LED wall. Chicago Scenic's digital CS Control system managed three axes of motion, moving the scrim up and down, controlling the black masking and monitoring the turntable rotation for the 17 vehicles featured in the meeting's product preview
presentations.
"The CS Control system performed exactly as programmed," Burch said. "The cues in this program needed to be precise, reliable, and repeatable, and CS Control delivered. The program was executed flawlessly, and the client was pleased with the outcome."
