As Senior Product Manager at Chicago Scenic, Ross’ responsibilities include leading and coordinating the functions of all shop departments (carpentry, metals, paint and electrics) to ensure that progress against the project’s timeline is met and the team meets its budget constraints.

“As the project manager, I try to inspire the team, coordinate their efforts, keep the various craftsmen focused. I provide the leadership to keep the team moving against our established deadlines and budgets,” Hamilton says.

Ross was six years out of Hartford, Connecticut’s Trinity College with a BA when he joined Chicago Scenic 22 years ago. He and CSSI president Bob Doepel were classmates at Carnegie Mellon where Ross spent the first part of his undergraduate years. After working in not-for-profit theatre roles primarily on the East Coast, Ross headed to Chicago and began his commercial career with Chicago Scenic.

In those years at Chicago Scenic, Ross says, he has had the good fortune to never be bored. “Bob has always fostered an environment where we continue to reach for something higher,” Ross says. “There’s a real lack of satisfaction with the status quo, which has always led us to increased opportunities and greater challenges.”

In recent years, Ross has served as project manager for the Overture Center in Madison, WI and the Strathmore Center in Bethesda, MD. Both projects included fabrication and installation of unique orchestra riser systems in state-of-the-art performing arts facilities. Ross and his project team have also led the complex press reveals, featuring technologically advanced automation, at annual International Auto Shows in Detroit for various manufacturers such as GM, Ford and Chrysler.

Ross is currently senior project manager for the Chicago Aquarium’s “Oceanarium” expansion project, a multi-million dollar project altering the existing space into a theatrical venue. In the project’s initial phase, Ross’ team coordinates the many consultants contributing to the redesign of the Oceanarium space as a theater, developing new capabilities for lighting, sound, projection, video and rigging.
