Rob joined Chicago
Scenic in October 2007 and quickly became
known as the company’s automation and control specialist.
In response to client demand for reliable, dependable and
repeatable automation and motion control systems, CSSI has
invested considerable time, capital and resources to meet
customer needs; Rob currently oversees the ongoing system
maintenance and development for those systems.
“The best control system must be simple, reliable and elegant.
It must make a seamless transition from show to show,” Rob
says. “Each time we take the motion control system on the
road is a step we take toward improving the product and instilling
confidence in our customers. That’s what makes customers
return to us in the future.”
Recently, Rob oversaw the automation and motion control
systems that Chicago Scenic provided to Clear!Blue on their
General Motors press event at the 2008 North American International
Auto Show in Detroit. The automation system flew a
masking wall within the header, revealing an LED projection
screen, and controlled two of CSSI’s 18-foot, 10,000-lb.
capacity turntables. That reveal also featured the edge of
a raised turntable surround that dropped down to stage level,
creating a ramp for the car to drive off of and on to center
stage.
CSSI’s automation system was also used by George P. Johnson,
Toyota’s experiential marketing agency, for Toyota’s product
debut at the Detroit auto show.
Recently, Rob’s focus has expanded to encompass motors and
traveling deck winches, including cable-pull winches that
can dead lift 1,000 pounds at 3’ per second, and feature
redundant braking for safety purposes.
Rob graduated with a BA in Theatre Arts from Carroll College
and an MFA in Technical Design and Production from Yale University.
