Curt Kucik
Electrical Department Head
Curt has been with Chicago
Scenic for more than 20 years
and has supplied electrical solutions to many challenging
projects during that time. His extensive experience provides
Chicago Scenic with the flexibility to work on electrical
projects ranging from legitimate theater to special project
requirements.
For example, Curt developed the automated radio controls
that moved the show’s ice rink across the stage for Radio
City’s 75th Christmas spectacular. Curt also created the
extensive electronics system for Santastic™, a larger-than-life,
interactive holiday attraction that featured complex electrical
components, including an operable Naughty & Nice meter
and a conveyor belt that transported gifts from the Elves’
workshop to Santa’s gift bag.
Curt began his career with private engineering and contracting
projects in 1980 when he became an Illinois licensed electrician.
In 1985, Curt earned his BS, triple majoring in history, philosophy
and political science at Elmhurst College. While completing
his degree, Curt worked as a master electrician and later
head electrician for the college. In 1987, Curt received
his MA in public policy analysis from Northern Illinois University
in DeKalb. He joined Chicago Scenic that same year
and in 1990 became a licensed supervising electrician with
the City of Chicago.
As head of Chicago Scenic’s electric department, Curt was
a major contributor to the company’s new CS Control system
which has powered automated cues for a number of automotive
manufacturer press reveals since its development in 2006.
Curt has also earned many certifications, including ETCP.
He is a factory-trained CM technician, a PLC programmer,
and a Local 2 journeyman with IATSE. In addition, he is responsible
for electrical engineering for the company, and is responsible
for its continued listing as an UL-Article 508 panel shop.
