Brian Stockmaster joined the company in November, 2005 and
soon afterwards dove in to manage the Chicago Park District
“Garden in a City” project, a Chicago garden and landscape
design show focused on urban horticulture and the greening
of urban communities. Chicago
Scenic acted as general contractor
on the project, coordinated rigging, lighting, power, and
provided scenic elements such as the facades of Chicago dwellings.
Like all Chicago Scenic project managers, Brian juggles
many projects and is responsible for planning, preparation,
scheduling, personnel supervision and profitability. Brian
directs shop projects, coordinates all the contributing personnel
that any specific project requires, and is Chicago Scenic’s
primary client contact from project beginning to end.
In early 2007, Brian worked with agency Clear!Blue to provide
scenery automation for General Motors’ new car “reveal” press
event at the Detroit
AutoShow. Another notable project he
worked on was the construction of a 26-foot diameter globe
consisting of a steel base, aluminum globe, and continents
made of steel and high impact acrylic. The globe was built
for Freeman Exhibits to debut at Bio2007.
Brian also was the project manager for “Cool
Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet”, a public art project installed
along Chicago’s lakefront during the summer of 2007. Brian
led the team of Chicago Scenic employees who coordinated
the logistics and physical installation of the globes, installed
identifying plaques for each globe, and managed the emergency
response team for damaged globes.
Brian arrived at Chicago Scenic after an eight year stay
in New York City where he worked first as a scenic carpenter
and then as project manager for John Creech Design & Production
(JCDP). While there, he worked on a wide variety of projects
including building Broadway props and touring theater shows.
Following a five-year stint at JCDP, he moved to Showman
Fabricators where he specialized in television work, creating
high end sets for ESPN, CNN, MTV and the three networks.
He also worked on live televised events, most notably ESPN
SportsCenter, Martha, and NBC Evening News.
A graduate of the University of Evansville, IN, Brian earned
a BFA in theatre, and continued his education at the University
of Wisconsin at Madison where he earned a master’s degree
in technical theatre.
