Beth Smith
Metals Department Head
As the Metals Department Head, Beth coordinates crews on
the shop floor and maintains strict standards for quality
control on the wide variety of projects that move through
the department.
While Beth oversees all Metals Department projects, she
has recently worked on the BioGlobe, a 26-foot diameter globe
consisting of a steel base, aluminum globe, and continents
made of steel and high impact acrylic. The globe was built
for Freeman Exhibits to debut at Bio2007.
Beth has also worked on several new automation projects,
including automated turntables for the debut and display
of cars for a variety of clients’ auto show presentations.
In April 2003, Beth joined Chicago Scenic on a part-time
basis, became a full-time Metals Department employee in 2004,
and was promoted to department head in June 2005.
Originally from Ohio, Beth graduated with a BFA from the
Art Institute of Chicago with a concentration on sculpture.
She spent nine years at another scenic shop in Chicago where
she gained additional metals and welding experience. Beth
has four welding certificates in steel and aluminum.
