As project coordinator at Chicago
Scenic, Alyce works
on a wide variety of client jobs, lending her expertise in
organization and scheduling to each project. But there are
two recurring types of projects for which Alyce is known
throughout the company and CSSI’s client base - she organizes
and manages the wide array of parade floats that Chicago
Scenic produces and she is the key contact for the annual
Winter Wonder Fest (WWF) at Chicago’s Navy Pier.
Soon after joining Chicago Scenic in July, 2006, Alyce became
primary project manager for all parade activities. Each year
CSSI clients participate in at least a dozen parades. Parade
management is especially challenging because it requires
understanding and juggling many different project component
such as complex audio systems, automotive engines, exhaust
issues, visibility restrictions, and the logistics of transporting
floats to and from parade locations without incident.
Since assuming responsibility for parade projects, Alyce
has implemented a comprehensive education program for shop
employees to ensure that parade preparation and follow-up
is consistent and floats are always ready to go. It’s a business
that requires creative problem solving and the ability to
think fast.
The other major project that Alyce spearheads each year
is Navy
Pier’s Winter Wonder Fest, a multi-faceted and complex
family entertainment destination that opens for one month
each holiday season. Alyce’s responsibilities for WWF are
extensive and include coordinating a wide group of tradespeople
who install and maintain rides, decorations, and exhibits.
WWF is a project Alyce works on periodically throughout the
year.
“Working with customers on repeat jobs requires constant
relationship building,” Alyce says. “That’s an important
part of the projects I work on for Chicago Scenic.”
Prior to joining Chicago Scenic, Alyce worked as a production
assistant for a small Chicago scene shop where she oversaw
movie and commercial set fabrication, managed budgets, estimating,
and organized and coordinated subcontractors. Alyce earned
her B.S. degree in general liberal arts from Southern Illinois
University at Carbondale.
